Paul Michael Pelken is an experienced registered architect, academic and innovator with a consistent track record of award winning and patented developments in design, architecture, and engineering. Building upon his foundation as a German carpenter and builder, he has extensive experience working on projects ranging from industrial design to large scale architectural structures, and has practiced in Germany, Italy, the UK, USA and China. His work has been widely published and exhibited in high level professional forums, design, industry, and museum venues. With P+ Studio and Consulting he drives change at the interfaces of academic and industry led developments.
Prior to assuming industry leadership roles to manage Research & Development portfolios, he was a tenured Research Professor at Syracuse University, Research Fellow at the New York State Center of Excellence for Energy and Environmental Systems, and Director of SU's London Architecture Program. He is holder of 6 patents and IP awards, with further 3 industry patents pending in the UK/EU as co-inventor and Innovation Director with Keltbray Group. His passion for innovation secured him over $1M in faculty grants in Energy and Environmental Systems R&D as a Director at Syracuse University, followed by Innovate UK funded KTP and Transforming Construction project values of over £1.1m in his industry post. Other roles include EPSRC co-funded work at UCL, research supervision at the University of Cambridge, and Visiting Professorships at Nanjing University and Southeast University.
He joined the CNIE Advisory Board in 2015 on behalf of Laing O Rourke’s Engineering Excellence Group. Since 2017 he has been part of the board as partner of P+ Studio and Consulting. In 2017 he also joined the faculty at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, followed by promotion to Senior Associate in 2018. In 2019 he was appointed as Honorary Visiting Professor at City, University of London.
