Inspiration Grants 2020

29 June 2020

We are delighted to announce that the CNIE Inspiration Grants are open for application. The scheme was launched in 2015. So far, 22 projects have been funded.

The aim of the CNIE Inspiration Grants is to encourage collaboration and engagement between UCL researchers, leading researchers across the UK, and industry. The wider aim is to grow the Centre’s engagement and outreach, further validate and promote nature-inspired approaches to engineering, and initiate new research projects tackling key industrial and environmental challenges, by taking inspiration from nature.

Whilst the call is open across all themes of the Centre, this year, we are especially inviting applications for projects aligned to the new Theme 4, on Ecosystems, Control & Modularity. This theme implements network properties and control mechanisms that underpin resilience and adaptability in ecosystems and other natural networks, in applications ranging from catalysis to process intensification, medicine, and the built environment.

The call for Inspiration Grants is open to all academic researchers in the UK. We fund short postdoctoral projects (3-9 months), which explore opportunities to apply nature-inspired engineering within new projects. Ultimately, the grants should help to obtain preliminary results to apply for a longer-term, externally funded grant.

Inspiration Grants 2015 to 2019

Projects should fully align to the vision of the Centre for Nature Inspired Engineering.

More details are included in the call document. The applications should be submitted in PDF format, by email, to
