Inaugural Symposium of the EPSRC/Jeol Centre of Liquid Phase Electron Microscopy

13 July 2017

On the 10th July, UCL Department of Chemistry hosted a symposium to celebrate the official opening of the LPEM Centre. The event inaugurated the world’s first video liquid TEM capable of looking at the formation and evolution of structures in flowing liquids, including soft materials, cells and catalytic nanoparticles. It will help to characterise and develop new nature-inspired materials. This unique facility was funded by a grant by the EPSRC, led by Professors Giuseppe Battaglia, Ivan Parkin and Marc-Olivier Coppens, with additional support from JEOL, DENS Solutions, Gatan and UCL. The event comprised an opening address from UCL President and Provost, Professor Michael Arthur, and scientific presentations from others, including Professor Coppens whose speech was entitled ‘Nature-Inspired Engineering of High-Performance Porous Materials – Pushing the Boundaries’. You can watch a video of the facility here.
