CNIE Annual Advisory Board meeting and Conference
30 January 2018
The Centre for Nature Inspired Engineering (CNIE) hosted its 5th Annual Advisory Board Meeting and Workshop on 24-25 January.
The first day begun with introductions from our Director Prof Marc-Olivier Coppens, followed by guest talks from Prof David Price (UCL Vice-Provost of Research), Prof Ivan Parkin (Dean of UCL MAPS) and Prof Siddharth Patwardhan (Sheffield University). We were also delighted to have four fascinating talks from the CNIE Postdocs and PhD students on our current research projects.
The day continued with Centre's inaugural Advisory Board Meeting, where highly distinguished members from both academia and industry travelled from across the UK, Europe and the US to discuss the Centre's future.
The first day ended with a celebration at the The Bloomsbury Hotel with a guest speech from Prof Alan Penn (Dean of the Bartlett) who presented on ‘humans as a natural phenomenon’.
After a great first day, the second day began with talks from three of our newly awarded ‘Inspiration Grants’, followed by guest talks from Prof Nilay Shah (Imperial College London) and Prof Lynn Gladden CBE (Cambridge).
The Centre was also given an opportunity to show off its talent with a poster session, featuring sixteen posters from our Postdocs and PhDs. The session was really well received and gave a valuable insight into the work we do at the Centre and with the Department of Chemical Engineering.
